It Was Almost Wild

I was honored to be invited to show my "Where The Wild Things Are" piece in the "Terrible Yellow Eyes" show being held at Gallery Nucleus. Now, the tough part was that I did the original piece digitally... made to LOOK like a giant watercolor paper cut. So when I was invited to be a part of the show, I decided to actually re-create the piece as a REAL water color paper cut. The pictures below show some of the assembly process. This took place after sketching, painting, spray mounting, touching up, gluing, cutting, gluing, cutting, and more cutting.

Now where does this go...?

Many Layers!

Close up!

More closeness!

It fits so far!

The unfortunate ending to this story, is that I am not going to make it into the show after all. It turns out the adhesive I used to start the project is not as permanent as advertised, so I will need to go in and repair much of my early work. Also, my frame broke last night... as if to say "I don't want to go!" Sooo... I will miss the deadline.

Ahh well. If nothing else I will have something cool to hang on my wall. I wish everyone in the show the best of luck. Know that I am there in spirit! Mr. Sendak, I thank you for inspiring me!
