See The Dragons

So, I went to see "How To Train Your Dragon" over the weekend, and absolutely loved it. The movie was beautiful. I need to give a special mention to Nicolas Marlet who was the character designer on the project. (Also on Kung Fu Panda, Over The Hedge, Madagascar, Sinbad, Road to ElDorado, Etc.) The guy is a genius. My dream is to one day be half as good.

The story is solid. The animation is great. The modeling team knocked it out of the park. The action scenes are beautiful. It was my three year old's first 3D movie, and he loved it.

Go see this movie please. Support good animation.

Now We Are Getting Somewhere...

So, there are positives and negatives associated with posting a drawing every morning. One of the biggest draw-backs is the fact that you make a bunch of bad drawings public. For example... over the last few days I have been feeling out a robot design for a possible upcoming project. Those first attempts? Not so good. In fact. looking back... they burn my eyes. However, I do concede that they are an important part of the process. 

Today... I feel like I am getting somewhere. I have whittled away a lot of the icky, and refined some of the shapes. We are getting close, and that makes me happy.

Wow.. what a busy week. I have been working on some truly awesome things here at the day job, and finishing up some freelance character design at home. There is also a nasty cold circulating through my house, but so far I have managed to avoid it. Stay away icky cold! Hopefully this week stays calm and predictable... HA!
