Sign Of Life

"And there it was, directly in front of me. The one thing in the forest that had not been touched by evil's hot breath. It's life force almost palpable in what had become a sea of death. Why had it survived? That was not a question I could answer... but perhaps I knew a creature who could."

The Evening Fog Could Fool A Man

"I approached with caution, swearing all the while that my eyes were playing tricks on me. These were things of legend. These were things told to children during bed time fairy tales. Such things were not expected to exist in waking life. Yet as I grew closer, I would swear I felt a warm breeze flowing from the cave as if this hill was... breathing."

Just Try Me

Sorry for the quicky drawings and the missed days... I have started going to the gym several mornings a week and that really cramps my morning blog drawing style. (It does make me healthier and prolong my life however.) My goal is to still update two to three times a week. Maybe even with better artwork.

In This Action Packed Issue!

Well, I messed up. I thought last night was Thursday night (don't ask) and I rushed to throw this together as a final piece. I ended up cutting a lot of the things that I had originally envisioned and it feels a bit "unfinished." Plus, even after discovering that I had skipped an entire day of the week, I realized that I am too busy to take tonight and plus it up... so it is probably better that I put this one in the can. Anyway, that is my story. I still think it is fun, and one day may return to it... digital brush in hand.

Code of the Cryptids - Concept Art

I am rushing toward a deadline this morning, so no progress on Mr. Yeti. I thought I might post some more concept art for the Secret Saturdays game that was just launched.

In working with the game designer, I wanted to come up with an in-game sign that wouldn't sit there covering up the background. Between the two of us we came up with these "Projection Sign Posts" that would activate as soon as you walked up to them. In my final design, I drew them up as if they were dropped in from the Saturday's ship possibly by parachute. Right before they hit the ground a spike would deploy, allowing it to plant itself firmly in the ground.

In the game, they are reeaaallly tiny... but they work!

Secret Saturdays - Code of the Cryptids

A bit of a different type of post today... Cartoon Network promotion! Yesterday was a big day for me because it saw the launch of two games from our in-house games studio. The first is a flash game on the website called "Secret Saturdays - Code of the Cryptids." It is an episodic game that will help promote the snazzy new show coming to the network in a few weeks. This was my first full blown project as an Art Director here, and it was a great learning process. On top of what the team did with the great character animation, I was able to paint the backgrounds, and do a lot of the in game artwork. Chapters two and three are on their way and so far they are shaping up to be even cooler than chapter one. The game plays great and I think it might be worth your time to give it a shot.
If you play the game, you might recognize this as the background scrolling behind you

And I did mention there were TWO games that launched on Monday... and the second is "Ben 10 Bounty Hunters." This is a big online multi-player game that is really a first step into the huge world of online gaming. I only became involved towards the end of the project, so I can't really take credit for how good it looks... but the team did a great job. Unfortunately it doesn't work on a Mac at this point (boooo...) but if you can steal a PC at some point it will most certainly be worth it.

These are a few of the cool "capture devices" that you can use in the game. I was lucky enough to draw them up all shiny like.

So, that is my long winded post. Take a really long lunch break today and play some games!

Anybody Bring A Robot?

Happy Monday! I didn't have much time this morning, but I was able to rough in most of the main alien character. He has a good view of the unexpected confrontation, and is looking back to at his Commander as if to say "What the...?"

I have been asked by several people what brushes I am using in Painter. For this piece, I used the "2B Pencils" to sketch it out and for the color I am using the "Soft Oil Pastels." I find that you can really get in and get messy with the "paint" using them.

Yeti Pulp

So, I started laying down some color this morning, but I really didn't get very far. I am going for that classic "pulp" look with no line work and some larger brush strokes. No matter what happens, I am painting a Yeti fighting aliens... and I am going to have fun with it.

Not Yeti

Hey everybody. It is Monday once again, and I am back to work. I found out that the next Drawergeek's topic was "Yeti" and I started doodling right away. It might just be the best topic ever in the whole world.

I really appreciate the comments that are left here on the blog, and I promise to actually start responding to them. I am JUST beginning to settle into my new life here in Atlanta, and hopefully I can get on track with the little things. I just wanted to say that I whole heartedly appreciate the support.

He's Line About It

Happy Monday. I am happy to report that I now live in a real house, with a real family. This is way different than the fake house and family I have been living with over the past four months.

Today, nothing too exciting on the blog. I am starting to do a clean line on the old gator hunter here. I am going for a cleaner approach than usual, and I hope to actually color within the lines.
